Amy Savell was born in East Sussex England, where she grew up with her identical twin sister and younger twin brothers. She gets her love for Thoroughbreds from her mother, winning her first fancy dress show along with her twin sister Celia at two years old aboard Holly, a retired race horse. She started pony club on the classic Thelwell ponies where she competed in Prince William Cup pony club games, and then the Tetrathlon Team (running, riding, shooting and swimming). Amy was also a member of the local hunt. Throughout her childhood and into her twenties she competed locally in Eventing and Show jumping in England.

Amy moved to Virginia in 1998. She now owns a small farm in Sumerduck and continues show jumping and eventing with her Thoroughbreds, some which have been retrained from racing careers. When she is not training and starting Thoroughbreds on her farm for potential racing and show careers, Amy works for Sharon Maloney at Dog Patch Farm.
